Grassroots movements are powerful drivers of social transformation. At GROOTS Kenya, we believe that sustainable change begins within communities — when women, youth, and marginalized groups are organized, informed, and empowered to advocate for their rights and shape decisions that affect their lives.
We strengthen grassroots movements by building the capacity of community groups and networks to organize, mobilize, and influence policies and systems that impact their lives. We do this by:
- Supporting community-led movements to advocate for land rights, housing justice, gender equality, climate justice, and social accountability.
- Strengthening women-led grassroots organizations through leadership development, movement building, and civic education.
- Facilitating collective action among communities to address systemic inequalities and amplify local voices in county and national decision-making spaces.
- Supporting grassroots women to document community issues, generate evidence, and use data for advocacy and policy engagement.
- Promoting community participation in governance processes, public budgeting, and accountability mechanisms.
- Creating platforms for solidarity, learning, and collaboration between grassroots groups, civil society organizations, and policymakers.
- Supporting grassroots initiatives that strengthen resilience, livelihoods, and community-driven development.
