GROOTS Kenya affirms that grassroots women are effective leaders and drivers of development. The movement is grounded in the belief that strengthening the voice and agency of grassroots women is essential to transforming power structures at the county, national, regional, and international levels.
GROOTS Kenya believes that increasing the representation of grassroots women in leadership ensures that community priorities are reflected in policy-making, leading to more transformative and inclusive development outcomes. We accomplish this through strengthening the knowledge and skills of grassroots women.
GROOTS Kenya believes that when women have access to, ownership of, and control over productive assets such as land, finance, and technology, they can move out of poverty toward economic stability. The movement is committed to addressing barriers to economic inclusion, with a focus on land rights, participation in agricultural value chains, financial and digital inclusion, and strengthened networks.
GROOTS Kenya recognizes that while grassroots women and girls are disproportionately affected by climate change, they are not merely victims but powerful agents of change with innovative strategies for adaptation and resilience. The movement therefore advocates for their meaningful inclusion in climate policy, climate finance, and climate action.
GROOTS Kenya recognizes that patriarchal biases and intersecting systems of oppression, including religious extremism and capitalism, are deeply embedded in society and continue to fuel gender-based violence, discrimination, and the violation of women’s and girls’ rights. The movement therefore affirms that achieving its vision requires creating safe, just, and enabling environments free from all forms of gender injustice.
