Magdalene Nanjala remembers the day she watched months of hard work disappear. After planting maize, a family dispute escalated into an act of economic violence. Cattle were deliberately let onto her farm, destroying the crop she had invested in and leaving her wondering how she would provide for her family. Then came an unexpected turning point. At a community baraza, Magdalene heard Community Responders speak about gender injustices and the support available through the Jasiri Program. For the first time, she saw a pathway forward. She began with life skills and financial literacy training, learning how to keep business records, plan for growth, and make confident financial decisions. Later, she received a grant that she invested in poultry and two pigs—not as a quick fix, but as the foundation of a new beginning. Today, every egg she sells tells a different story. She supports her family, reinvests her profits, and continues expanding a business built on knowledge, resilience, and determination. This is Magdalene's story of turning loss into lasting opportunity. Watch. Share. Be inspired. #JasiriProgram #WomenLeading #EconomicEmpowerment #FinancialLiteracy #GROOTSKenya Magdalene Nanjala : She Lost Her Harvest. She Built Something Stronger.

Cecilia Ivayo is a woman with a disability who runs a green grocery business, which she operated on a small scale before joining the Jasiri Program. Cecilia notes limited financial literacy made it difficult to separate her personal finances from her business income. As a result, she struggled to grow and sustain her business. Through financial literacy training under the Jasiri Program, Cecilia gained the skills to manage her earnings more effectively, separating her personal finances from her business income and making more informed decisions about her business. Today, Cecilia stocks twice as much produce as she did before and is better able to meet her personal needs from her earnings. Her story shows how access to financial knowledge, skills and opportunities can strengthen women’s economic independence and enable them to grow their businesses on their own terms. ... The Jasiri Program strengthens the resilience of GBV survivors, expands their access to economic opportunities, and shifts social norms to enable adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) to thrive in entrepreneurship and employment. Implemented by a consortium Centre for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW), Grassroots Organizations Operating Together in Sisterhood (GROOTS) Kenya, Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development (CCGD), Centre for Domestic Training and Development (CDTD), and Advocates for Social Change Kenya (ADSOCK)in partnership with Mastercard Foundation #GROOTSKenya #JasiriProgram #EconomicEmpowerment #WomenLeadingChange #Entrepreneurship Cecilia Ivayo: Building a Stronger Business Through Financial Literacy

It is about restoring dignity, creating choices, and opening doors for women to shape their own futures and help others do the same. ...
