Rolling Boat SHG

Rolling Boat SHG is a group of 50 members, working with several partners including the County Government of Kitui, Caritas, and KYCEP. These partnerships have facilitated support for members in the form of seeds, fertilizers, and mosquito nets.

The group is actively engaged in agroforestry, focusing on the cultivation of diverse tree seedlings. In addition, Rolling Boat SHG is involved in poultry farming and the cultivation of cash crops like sunflowers and green grams (ndengu). The group maintains two bank accounts: one with the Co-operative Bank at Mwingi Branch and the other with Univision at Kitui Branch. The group has also purchased a Nissan vehicle to provide funeral services for the local community. Discussions are ongoing with Hivos to implement the RWCC project in the sub-county.

Of the 50 members, 30 are women, and 15 are registered with GROOTS Sacco (including 13 women and 2 men). The leadership is spearheaded by Stella Makonge, the Coordinator, and Martha Mulilii, the Chairperson.

Rolling Boat SHG is dedicated to addressing key community issues such as Gender-Based Violence (GBV), women's participation in governance, and agroecology. The group collaborates with the National Government, the Ministry of Health, and local security agencies. Stella Makonge, the Coordinator, serves as a member of both the sub-county and county peace and security committees, playing an active role in regional safety and stability.
