Wairimu Kanyiri

Wairimu Kanyiri is a community coach in Horticulture and value chain and a member of Ebenezer Women Group from Nakuru County, Molo sub-county, Turi ward. She joined GROOTS Kenya in 2013 under the Accelerating Rural Women Access to Agricultural Markets and Trade project, which was founded by the government of Japan through the World Bank Kenya. Wairimu champions Women’s Land Rights, climate Mitigation, and adaptation through Climate-smart agriculture videos in Arid and Semi-Arid (ASAL) areas, where GROOTS Kenya has projects.
As a land farmer, she receives and trains interns from Egerton University through the Ministry of Agriculture. She is an opinion leader in her community, the Vice-chair of Molo level 4 Sub-county Hospital, a Member of Sagaitim Primary School and Saint Brendan’s Secondary School Board of Management, a Member of Mkorombosi Health Center, and a previous Member of the Land Board.
Wairimu has spoken at National, Regional, and International forums, including the CSW in New York City in 2019 on Women's access to and control over land, the Home-Based Care Alliance in Uganda in 2018, the first international conference on women's economic empowerment at Kenyatta University in 2017, and the most recent Devolution Conference Makueni in 2021, where she addressed farmers about climate action as a panelist.
