Pacifica Lucy Ongecha

Pacifica Lucy Ongecha, from Limuru East Ward, Kiambu County, is a GBV Coordinator and Shelter Manager and a member of Limuru pillars of change joined GROOTS Kenya in 2012 under the Women's Leadership and Governance program. Her entry point was GBV, where she underwent intensive capacity building, which saw her rise to become the Kiambu Coordinator in 2013. In 2013, she engaged as the Deputy Constituency Manager of the Limuru Constituency, which she still coordinates to date.
Pacifica has engaged in various activities, including spearheading public participation sessions, women's leadership and governance activities, clean energy, and gender-based violence response and rescue. She is also part of several sub-county committees, including security, GBV technical working group, presidential bursary committee, Area Advisory Council for Children Matters, Court Users Committee, Kiambu County Technical Working Group, and the National Gender Sector Working Committee on the formulation of unpaid care work policy. She is also a board secretary of Lazarus Smile Foundation and Vice Chair of RFM 99.9 Community Radio Station based in Limuru.
In 2021, she was appointed to coordinate the UDA Party in Limuru Constituency, which she successfully delivered for the party. In 2022, she was nominated into the Kiambu County Assembly. Pacifica has represented GROOTS Kenya in both local and international forums, such as HLM2, GIMAC in Ethiopia, GBV meetings, and women's leadership.
She has also participated in several radio and TV talk shows, both in community and mainstream media, on various topics ranging from FGM, GBV, Devolution, and Political Participation. Pacifica is also a lady in the male-dominated Matatu Industry (Kenya's Local Transport) and has managed to beat all odds to become the Treasurer of Likambu Sacco. During her tenure, she has helped the Sacco grow and is currently funding members to buy big matatu vans (Boxes). She is a living testimony of violation and opting to walk away to be a role model and effectively engage and coordinate GBV issues
