Maureen Omutula

Maureen Omutula, from Central, Mumias West, Kakamega County, became a champion in GROOTS Kenya during the Women and Leadership programme in 2017, while running for an MCA seat in Mumias North Ward, Mumias West Constituency. In 2019, she took over as Sub County Coordinator and spearheaded the Public Participation program, which really sold GKenya in Mumias West because it educated the community about their roles and rights, while also connecting the community to both the County and National governments. She is also a GBV responder, which means she raises awareness with other responders and the community at large. She is a member and the Vice Chairperson of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) in Kakamega County. In 2022, she and her fellow champions founded a CBO called 'Eyes of Hope,' with the goal of educating the grassroots community about what is expected of them and their leadership, GBV, women, and land rights.
