Mary Alwanyi

Mary Alwanyi is a GBV champion from Kakamega County, Ikolomani, Idakho East. She is a member and Chair of IKOCHWA CBO. Mary joined Groots Kenya in 2013 and took the lead on the Haki Madini Yetu project from 2016 to 2019.
As a miner, she represented Groots Kenya at the 2017 Miners' Conference held in South Africa. Mary sits on the Groots Kenya Sacco Committee as a supervisory member. She holds positions as a community council member for agriculture, a community health volunteer and citizen advocate for TB, HIV, and malaria, a businesswoman, a church elder, and a member of the artisanal mining committee in her home county. She is a Human Rights Defender, a leader in advocating for women's leadership, and an Artisanal gold miner advocating for gender mainstreaming and mining responsibility and sustainability.
