Jane Wanjugu Muthukia, GROOTS Kenya Sub-County Coordinator from Laikipia North Sub-County, Segera Ward, joined the GROOTS Kenya movement in 2007 during the Women Leadership program and was later nominated as a Councilor for Laikipia County.
In her community, she mentors women to be elected and nominated for different positions of leadership. As a land rights advocate, she advocates for women's land rights, for them to be registered in the community land register.
Jane leads her community, particularly women, to fight FGM and other harmful cultural practices. She’s also a budget champion who mobilizes the community to participate in different County public participations to give development priorities and engage county leaders for various development projects in their community. Currently, she serves in GROOTS Sacco Society Ltd as the Vice-Chairperson, where she markets the Sacco products to various counties for recruitment of new members, so they can access affordable loans.
