Hannah Wanjiku Muiruri is a GROOTS Kenya champion from Murang'a County, Kiharu Sub-county, and Township Ward. She joined the GROOTS Kenya movement in 2015 through the Women and Land Rights Program, during which she was trained and participated in sensitization programs to educate grassroots women on their land rights. She then presented a land inventory to the county government land office. She coordinates GROOTS activities in Kiharu Sub-county. In the community, she is the chairperson of Kongoini United Mothers, a very active group that does poultry keeping, table banking, and outside catering. She mentors and encourages grassroots women to go for leadership positions. She is a member of BOM Kongoini Primary School and does mentorship programs there. For the last five years, she has been a ward office secretary under her area MCA. She is also a parish council member in St. Luke Kongoini and has participated in baseline surveys, mapping, and mentoring groups for the REEP project. She is a CHV in her ward, and a budget champion who mobilizes her community to attend and participate in public participation so that they can give their priorities. She is a Gender Data and Statistics Champion in GROOTS Kenya and a GBV respondent against domestic violence. Currently, she is a TOT in a project by Natural Product Industry (NPI) and Murang'a County Government, where she trains small-scale farmers on growing and using African Indigenous Vegetables (AIV) for a healthy and wealthy county.
