Dorcas Wanjiku Kigera

Dorcas Wanjiku Kigera is a passionate advocate for community development and women's empowerment. She is a lead farmer in Nakuru County, Molo Subcounty, Elburgon Ward, and a member of the Eastleigh Local Women's Group. In 2014, she joined Groots Kenya through the Accelerating Rural Women Access to Markets and Trade project. In her community, Dorcas advocates for community development and mentors women farmers in agribusiness. She also sits on the board of directors in her church and is currently the Groots Sacco Chairperson. Through this role, she encourages Groots Kenya members to save with the Sacco and access loans.
She champions farmer voices to be included in decision-making platforms, especially now that they are experiencing the challenge of climate change. Dorcus has been in public participation farmers’ forums in Nakuru, pushing for gender policy, and she sits on the seed fund committee where they issue loans to women farmers.
Dorcus participated in a policy dialogue forum, in 2017 in Uganda and also attended a meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, and sat on a panel to discuss farmer voices in connection with climate change that was organized by AGRF. Since 2017, she has been actively involved in the growth and development of Groots Sacco. As the Chair of the Supervisory Committee, she is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Sacco and ensuring that it is compliant with all relevant regulations.
Dorcus has also been involved in movement building, organizing, and mentoring groups in Nakuru, Nyandarua, Muranga, Tana River, and now in Baringo. She is the founder of Elburgon Community CBO, which is a Sacco that she has been working on since 2017. Her goal is to continue to support the growth and development of Groots Sacco and to help it become a leader in the Sacco industry
