Adelaide Muhani, GROOTS Kenya's Coordinator for Kakamega County, Shinyalu Sub-county, and Isukha South ward joined GROOTS Kenya 2018 after attending a Lands Board Committee. She is a Human Rights Defender and a Lands Board Committee member, and she ensures that women and girls inherit property from their parents and spouses. She is also a Gender-Based Violence responder, rescuing survivors, reporting cases, and following up on cases in court until justice is found and perpetrators are arrested. Additionally, she is a budget champion and participates in public participation, mentoring women in leadership and advocating on climate change, so the community knows what crops to plant in which season. She also does advocacy on the aforementioned projects at the community level. Adelaide is a Lands Board member of Shinyalu, representing Khayega Location, and the Chairperson of Chief Milimu County Dispensary. She is also a member of Kakamega Council of Elders, where she is the head of Education, a member of GROOTS Sacco, and a Board of Management member of St. Xavier Shipalo Secondary School, Lugango Secondary School, Museno Primary School, D.E.B. Khayega Primary School, and St. Augustine Mukumu Primary School. Furthermore, she is the Chairperson of Shilu Women Group, Secretary of Lia na Bosio Women Group, Chairperson of Khayega Self Help Group, Treasurer of Khayega Market, Secretary of Khayega Traders Welfare Group, Secretary of Shianyinga Sub Parish Catholic Women Association, and Organizing Secretary of Mukumu Parish Catholic Women Association. On matters of leadership, she is the Women’s Representative of the ANC Party Isukha Southward. She carries out her work with passion and always advocates for GROOTS projects.
