International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
This year’s theme is#BEBOLDFORCHANGE. To celebrate the 2017 International Women’s Day, GROOTS Kenya has organized a procession in Nanyuki town, Laikipia County on Wednesday, 8th March 2017. Our local theme during the processional march will be: Equal Opportunities for men and women in public leadership.The march will bring together at least 150 grassroots Women, Youth and aspirants from Laikipia, Nairobi, HomaBay, Muranga Kiambu, Kakamega, Busia, Nakuru, Marsabit, Isiolo and Kitui Counties among others. GROOTS Kenya will be calling on the people of Kenya to be boldly step up and vote in women in the upcoming 2017 general election.
Under the banner of “CHAGUA MAMA, MAMA NA UONGOZI ”, GROOTS Kenya will play host to women aspirants from across the political divide including Hon Alice Wahito, Hon Cate Waruguru, Hon Beth Muchiri (Incumbent MCAs) ,Virginia Nyaguthii, Veronica Muthoni, Mercy Njukia, Jane Koskei among others. The processional march will start at 11:00 am from the Equator point through Nanyuki town to Central park Grounds. The Kenyan women will collectively call for an end to divisive politics, electoral gender based violence, underrepresentation of women and non-discrimination against women aspirants by political parties.
